Recently bought the new swift VXi variant and finally said goodbye to my old Nissan Micra active. Micra was indeed a good car but now that I have been driving my swift close to half a month, I realized what i was missing out. No wonder swift is considered widely by driving enthusiasts. Things that brought my attention to Maruti Suzuki were definitely their service, maintenance cost and resale value. Or should i say those were the things i missed in Nissan. But after getting swift, I understood what value for money really can be and that its not the Maruti Suzuki badge that made it one of the most popular cars in India. It has adequate power for Indian roads and traffic, it is spacious for the category and price(space has improved a lot compared to the older generation) and nonetheless is equipped with decent features including the ones related to safety. Oh boy, the new swift has improved a lot in the looks department. It is even mistaken for a mini cooper ahem ahem. Jokes apart, the new design is very welcoming and i should agree that the swift now looks stunning and stylish than ever before. It has decent power under its hoods to get you enough dash for that quick overtake. Steering wheel is not too light and not too heavy. Gear shifts are smooth and clutch is light enough. Gives you decent fuel economy even during city rides( approx 17kmpl for me). Space is decent and legroom is not bad for someone like me who is just over 6 ft tall. You've got enough storage compartments in the cabin and the bootspace is okay as well. Now the review can't be complete without pointing out the cons. Yes you guessed it right, the first and main negative is definitely its weak body and poor performance in NCAP. It is a serious issue and hope they will address it in the coming models. Another drawback is its pricing and variant packaging. It just doesn't seem appealing to me. I mean the huge price leap between the variants which even overlaps the price of bigger and premium cars of their own. And what you get for that price difference doesn't seem convincing. These aside, if you are looking for a fun to drive, great looking hatchback with decent mileage, power, adequate features, along with all the perks of buying a Maruti car, go for the Swift.
