Maruti Alto 800 is that entry-level car that got the ingredients right. Although its an 800 cc engine churning out only a 35 Hp that seems enough for lightweight chassis and, to be honest that's what one can get for around 3 lakhs. It would be misleading if I didn't mention which variant got the ingredients right and that would be the LXI variant. Getting an airbag as standard and power steering that's pretty much makes up for it. Talking about the handling, the handling is pretty sweet due to the lightweight. The gear shifting might seem a little hard as compared to some upper segments but again it's just a 3 lakh car. The drive is smooth. Power delivery is slow and steady, in order to make that last moment overtake, one might have to push the pedal all the way down and then might get just a push back but does the job. Noise and vibration aren't much damped compared to other cars in the segment but Maruti's reliability is the one to go for. The interior feels fresh with design brought from the k10 and gives a little a segment higher feel but again if you're a very built person then you might seem the seats to Jarrow. The verdict would be that it might have got few ingredients right but could have done more better. And if you want to get all the features then it's another 1 lakh and which opens the doors for other and better competitors.
