    Q.

Which is best AT (torque converter) or DCT tranmission?

A torque converter is one of the oldest kinds of automatic transmissions and over the years, they have gotten more refined and efficient. A torque converter is a good bet for you if your driving includes a mix of different scenarios such as slow city crawls in traffic, long highway stints where you easily cruise at triple digit speeds, or a twisty road that requires you to go through the gears often -- and all of that with the option of still returning a fuel efficiency that would be close to its manual counterpart. Whereas, The DCT then comes across as an automatic transmission that caters best to the enthusiast, with its super quick shifts. It is the closest an automatic transmission has come in replicating the kind of joy you can expect from manual cars. As far as their fuel efficiency is concerned, it all depends on how you drive. A smooth and light input will result in good efficiency and in most cases comes very close to the efficiency numbers you can achieve from a manual gearbox equipped car. Thus a DCT is the best all around package, especially if your driving scenario isn’t limited to just city or highway driving. The only engine to be offered across variants of the Sonet is the 1.5-litre diesel. It’s offered in two different states of tune when paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Compared to Hyundai’s old 1.6-litre diesel, refinement levels on the 1.5-litre motor has clearly taken a beating. The motor’s gruff note and clatter can be heard inside the cabin, with minor vibrations being felt on the floor and pedals. The amped up insulation does help negating a portion of the racket, but that doesn’t eliminate it. You’d have to turn up the volume on the sound system a little more on the diesel compared to the petrol. The diesel engine will ensure the wallet is happy by being frugal. For city usage, it feels responsive thanks to all that torque the engine has to offer. For a better understanding of compatibility and driving comfort, we would suggest you to take a test drive. All five cars are good in their forte. With a striking interior and exterior design, host of feel-good features and multiple powertrain options, Kia seems to have cut no corners in equipping its first offering for India. The Sonet is ticking all the right boxes otherwise. It’s delivering on the wow factor with pukka mini-SUV looks, quality interiors and a feature list that’d make you question paying a premium for larger SUVs. It’s being sensible and practical too, with loads of cubby holes and a large boot. You get proper automatics, and the engines on offer cover a wide range of usage. The Hyundai Creta is clearly an impressive compact SUV. It is spacious, comfortable, loaded with features, easy to drive and offered with powerful petrol and diesel engine options. Compared to the old car, it is a huge upgrade, both in terms of drive and feel. The Taigun, apart from a few fit and finish issues, feels like a proper Volkswagen. Finally a worthy upgrade for the Polo and Vento owners. Whereas, This ‘king’ certainly has some flaws but they aren't big enough for most buyers to ignore the Kushaq's royal claims. The Kushaq is a desirable and sensible package for the compact urban family. For a better understanding of compatibility and driving comfort, we would suggest you to take a test drive.
